The Intraweb Resource Center
Life is a web of interconnected resources.
Our goal: make your life easier and help you get the most out of the IntraWeb product, and how to use other web development components and tools.
We provide or point you to: the tools to amplify your effort; training to make the most productive use of the tools; information at your fingertips to find those hard-to-find answers; technical talent to back up your efforts;and fast help when you need it. We can put together teams of people to solve your tough problems.
We focus on Delphi, Intraweb, PHP and Javascript. We are also provide assistance with .Net, and will be including Silverlight and other tools to our repertoire.
This is a challenging set of goals. If your time is important to you, you can help. Join us. Send us a program you wrote that illustrates a problem. Send us a program you wrote that illustrates a solution. Point out a tool you use that really does the job well. Mention a tool you use that does not do the job well. If you come across a site using IntraWeb, let us know. Join us. Share one minute of your day. Share what you have learned. Join us.
Who are we? We are Delphi developers who use IntraWeb and the other tools daily. We have lived with it, and are solving major commercial problems with it. Join us.
1 August 2008. Olaf Monien, a long-time member of the IntraWeb team, has been offered the lead on a new project, and has accepted the post. This led to the IntraWeb team being strengthened with the return of Chad Hower, the addition of Matthiss ter Woord and Glenroy Skelton. We all owe Olaf a huge round of applause, and best wishes on his project. Olaf will continue to be available for training and consultation.
30 June 2008. Chad Z. Hower, aka 'Kudzu', announced his return to the Intraweb development team.
1 July 2008. Embarcadero Technologies, Inc. completed the acquisition of CodeGear, LLC. The following quote suggests the strength brought to the CodeGear family: "A community of more than three million worldwide and 90 of the Fortune 100 rely on Embarcadero CodeGearT and DatabaseGearT product lines to increase productivity, openly collaborate, and be free to innovate."
CodeGear regained its 'independence' in 2007 when Borland spun them off as a separate division. They quickly restored their focus on quality, quality, and quality as well as the features of the IDE. This resulted in Delphi 2007, which we believe to be their best IDE since Delphi 7. Embarcadero promises to further strengthen the appeal and usefulness of the CodeGear product line.
Web Development with Delphi for Win32, with Focus on VCL for the Web (Intraweb)
5 June 2008 update of 15 April 2008 announcement. Bob Swart, aka 'Dr. Bob', long-time contributor to the Delphi community, announced the available of his book about Delphi and Intraweb's VCL for the Web. Bob Swart has been serving this community since the early 90's, if I recall correctly. Dr. Bob's book is available from Lulu.com or from Dr. Bob's own website.
Here is a quote: "In this paperback about Web Development with Delphi for Win32, the focus is on VCL for the Web, also known as IntraWeb. The manual starts with a brief overview of database normalisation, and in the first section covers the installation (or upgrade) of IntraWeb 9.0.x and possible problems and solutions. The second section covers IntraWeb in Page Mode, followed by IntraWeb in Application Mode in the larger 3rd section. The subsequent sections cover IntraWeb Client Side, IntraWeb and ActiveForms, IntraWeb and AJAX, IntraWeb Custom Components, the IntraWeb Testing Framework and finally IntraWeb Deployment. A special bonus section compares IntraWeb to ASP.NET. The book can also be purchased in PDF format (with free updates and support) from my own website"
Tiburon - CodeGear's codename for Delphi/C++ IDE with full Unicode support
Updated 23 April 2008. This version, expected in the second half of 2008, will provide full Unicode and Generics support. Connectivity with foreign databases will be expanded. The DataSnap architecture and the dbExpress data access framework will be strengthened and extended. The Tiburon IDE, as currently planned, will be completely Unicode-based along with the VCL and build-chain, enabling complete Unicode-enabled development. Developers will be able to use Unicode strings and characters throughout the runtime library, the VCL, and their own code. Generics and Anonymous Messages will be supported.
This information describes CodeGear's general product direction at this time, and should not be relied on in making a licensing decision. The future development, release and timing of features and functionality remains at our sole discretion and may be changed at any time without notice.
Delphi for PHP
14 April 2008. Version 2.0 of the Delphi for PHP IDE was released. This version brought D4PHP closer to the high quality level programmers experience with the Delphi IDE used for Object Pascal. With the improvements in this version, CodeGear has a product that a professional can use to increase his productivity in PHP development. It is a joy to using the integrated debugger. We can step through a php unit, or a family of units, and trace the execution while inspecting property values. This is so much easier than trying to debug using Notepad or other simple hand tools. Not to be unfair, but it is like using a Case backhoe to clear out a large ditch instead of working with a hand trowel wearing hip waders.
Arcana Technologies Releases Elite Suite for Intraweb and VCL for the Web to Open Source
7 March 2008. Jason Southwell, head of Arcana Technologies, has released the Elite Suite for Intraweb and VCL for the Web, to open source. 'iwElite' is now hosted on Google and is available for download.
AJAX for Intraweb
With the release of the 9.0.x series of Intraweb, Atozed has incorporated AJAX support across most of its components. This replaces the previous use of umPartial versus umAll that was used to provide rapid partial screen refresh and smooth repaints. Those two properties are not deprecated. Developers should be aware that there are limitations to the use of AJAX in screen handling. Intraweb's AJAX programming provides a targeted refresh of specific components only. The onAsyncClick event does not cause a refresh of many of the components on a screen. Some that were disabled will remain disabled, although their state may have changed on your code back at the server.
